Highlights of this 5-day trekking in Kazakhstan nearby Almaty:

This is a reasonably tough trek in the Northern Tien Shan Mountain Range close to Almaty. You won’t meet many people (probably none) during the trek. The trek is guided by experienced local mountaineers.

Tour itinerary
Day 1 Almaty city to Turgen valley, Ile Alatau national park
Transfer from your hotel in Almaty to the Turgen valley in the early morning (two hours). Start of your trekking in Kazakhstan!
Trek by the Turgen river up to the confluence with Kairak river (waterfall). Here you’ll camp on a left side of Turgen river. Trekking time some 5 hours. Overnight in tents at a height of 2,300m.
Day 2 Ile Alatau national park
Cross up to the plateau with 3 big lakes. Trekking time today 5-6 hours.
Overnight in tents at a height of 3,100m.
Day 3 Ile Alatau national park
Trek up in a direction of Mountain Institute glacier. Trekking time today 5-6 hours. Overnight in tents at a moraine of a glacier, at a height of 3,350m.
Day 4 Ile Alatau national park
Cross the Mountain Institute glacier and trek up to the Glaciologist glacier. Climb over the pass (3,850m) and trek down by the moraine in a direction of Temirtas river. This will take you some 6-7 hours. Overnight in tents at a height of 3,200m.
Day 5 Ile Alatau national park, Almaty city
Trek down following the Temirtas river, to the Donjailau plateau. Then turn in a direction of the Kairak waterfall and further down along a Turgen riverank to Batan village. Here the (luxe) camping is situated. Trekking time about 6-7 hours.
Transfer back to you hotel in Almaty (2 hours).
Day 6 Home sweet Home
Free day and transfer to the Airport. Breakfast is included in the price.
Essentials
GUIDE
A Chinese, English or Russian speaking Kazakh guide will accompany the group at all times. The guide will be a native Kazakh person with great local knowledge who can deal with any requests and ensure that your holiday to become one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life.
TRANSPORT
This trip you have a two choice. First one is a highest level, latest model, air-conditioned private 4WD vehicles for the maximum comfort on your touring days. And second choice is Russian 4×4 Van. Also with experience drives.
MEALS
In Kazakhstan, you will be dining at fine American, European and Asian cuisine restaurants. Mutton, beef, rice and noodles form the basis of the Kazakhstan’s diet, so your meals will be based around this. However, the trail rations may include vegetables, eggs, peanut butter, cheese and sometimes yak! On some days there will be lunchboxes from our cook.
PERSONAL THINGS TO BRING WITH YOU
Warm thin layers of clothing are the best such as bring a rain jacket, gloves and hiking booth. Don’t forgot first aid kit (medicine for headache, cold, diarrhea, runny nose; bandages; any medicine prescribed for you). All your camera equipment.
